Looking for any information on on my great grandfather "William Travis Bradbury". Don't know where he came from nor do I have any history about him. He died in Cleburne, Texas (Johnson County) in the late 1940's or the early 1950's. He lived in East Texas for awhile I'm sure because that's where my grandfather "Robert Travis Bradbury" (Carthage, TX) was born. Popular story in my family is that William Travis also lived in Marshall, TX as well. Once I track down information on him I should be able to start tracing my family history.

Some time ago, I did some basic research on the Bradbury family name. I was told that the name was originally from a family of chemists from the Stockport area of Manchester (Bredbury). They apparently had their own coat of arms (3 white bottles on a blue background). Also the motto ( I can't remember the original latin) meant "if you take your salts regularly then you will go regularly". I was pleased to find this site that at least gives us Bradbury's a more interesting background - at least that's what my future wife says! That will be 25001 Bradbury's worldwide!!

Hello Again - I have just a bit more information to share regarding Simeon Bradbury and then another request. Simeon's father was Samuel Bradbury. His Children were Daniel, Mary, Frances and Olive Ann I am especially interested in Frances and Olive Ann. I believe Frances is my great-great-grandmother and that Olive would be a distant Aunt. I do know that Olive Ann Bradbury married William Warland Clapp Lane, and they had a daughter, Edith Norcross Lane who "never married". I also BELIEVE that my grandmother, Frances Arnold Loudon, was the grand daughter of Frances Bradbury. That is where things get fuzzy. My grandmother's (Frances Arnold)mother was named Georgianna Fowler. Yet, I believe her REAL father was John Varney. The names don't match up, so I am wondering if I have correct information. Some of the information I have is from handwritten information in the Bradbury Memorial that has been handed down in our family. The rest of the information is from death/birth/marriage certificates and oral history. So - anyone out there with additional information, or information that confirms what I have? Thanks so much! Sue

Thanks to John & Jim Bradbury for in depth content and hosting our family lineage. You have done wonderful work - congratulations. We are the ONLY Bradbury's in Argentina. My Grandfarther Charles Beckett Bradbury, born 26 October, 1870 in the District of Aughbon, County of Lancaster, England, emigrated to Argentina in 1892 as a Civil Engineer working to build the railway system. He married Edith Maude Wigg in Argentina and they had four sons (all of which have passed along): Jack, Ralph, Eric and Malcolm. My farther, Eric Shawe Bradbury, born October 8, 1910, married Elsa Cavanagh with 3 daughters and myself as the offspring. My Greatgrandfarther is John Shaw Bradbury, born in 1843 in Saddleworth, York, England.
My first cousins, 8 in all, are spread around the world in Argentina, South Africa, Canada, Scotland and England. I have a signet ring with the Family Crest as shown on the web site, so I'm VERY PROUD to be a Bradbury.

Their children born in Lewis County WV: William D., Emma E.(m. McKinley), Dora, Mary Jane, Franklin M., Pearl (m. Joseph L. Hall), Wilberta (m. Fortner), Edward J., Thomas L., Robert M., Sarah E. One of Thomases brother is said to have gone to Canada & one to Australia. Thomas was a stonemason & came from England mid 1800's; was head bricklayer for WVIA oldest stone structure in U. S. (on National Register). Bradburys moved to Arkansas 1900 to homestead - now it's called Fairfield Bay Resort Area. Family cemetary & Davis Special area still intact. Cannot account for Thomas L. & Franklin M.-Hackers Creek, Maxwell's Run where they were born...just found out from HCPD (Hackers Creek Pioneer Descendents) that it is Thomas S. & Francis born to Thomas & Mahala. John, any input? Thanks for previous info, this site is great! Still looking for Emma E. Bradbury McKinley & two children Bertie B. & Edward G. McKinley (possibly in Oklahoma). Can any of you Bradburys provide any more insight into their whereabouts?
My grandmother was Pearl E. Bradbury Hall (m. Joseph Lemuel Hall of WV). John, a Connecticutt Yankee in King Arthur's Court? Love the heraldry. Let's all network! Johns got the scoop. Anyone connected to Littleton in England? We know virtually nothing of our Bradburys & it's said Thomas was a paid escort to fiance of a planter (don't know who), and that he and two brothers came to America sometime mid 1800's. Don't know their names either. Help, we'd like to know more about our Bradburys.

I am a decendant of the Bradbury family. I have the name Joseph H Bradbury being born in Maine in 1825. Died 1880 in Bloomington MN. Had one son John Henry Bradbury born in Bloomington 1865. Interesting that on his death certificate the information was limited and stated unknown to parents dates of birth and places. Even though this info was provided by his wife. Wonder if it is the story I read in another query of 7 brothers from Maine?? It is rumored that this family was related to William Batchelder Bradbury the composer. Any help out there?

Well....what a suprise....all us Bradbury's from all around the world.... From what I understand the Bradbury name originated from the North West of England, which is where I was born and currently live...although I am due to move to live and work in Connecticut USA at the end of August 2000. The Bradbury name is very common here in the Manchester/Stockport area of England, there is a district called "Bredbury" in the Stockport area and my name is often mistaken for it. In Saddleworth, just to the North East of Manchester there is a museum where the Bradbury name can be found on.....There use to be a company called Bradbury Engineering and Motor Co, based in Oldham, they use to make cottonmill machinery and motorcycles, in fact an original Bradbury motorcycle can be found in the museum.....anyway enough of my ramblings.....Bradbury is a proud name and I'm proud to be a Bradbury....!!

I just found this web site. I was born on 12/17/46 and am descended from the 1st Bradbury (Thomas) according to the main web page. I know this because my family has a copy of the Bradbury Memorial, which is mentioned above. I would like to get the updated version. I have information of the descendants of George Record Bradbury (my grandfather) of Fort Kent, Maine, who died in the 1930's. My father, Kent Fairfield Bradbury, was born in Fort Kent in 1913 and was named after the two forts Kent and Fairfield on the Canadian border from Revolutionary War times. he died in 1970. I have a brother Thomas Eliot Bradbury who lives in Charlottesville, VA and my sister Joyce Bradbury Minor who lives in Richmond, VA. I have two children and 3 nieces and a nephew. My Bradbury side cousins are: Kathy Bradbury - Wisconsin Marilyn Dynes (married name escapes me) - California Sam Dynes - Atlanta, GA Mary Runyon - may be deceased, but lived near Boston, Mass. I have lost touch with her.

Would love to hear from anyone who can fill in the gaps before this time, and has any info on his four sons, Charles Eatwell, Augustus Beatty, Miles Coverdale and Rowland Keates, who travelled to UK, Scotland, and New Zealand respectively. Also, check out our website at

Am currently researching my family tree. My family is decended from Robert Bradbury born 15/11/1786 and Hannah Bertinshaw, Stockport, Cheshire, England.Had a son James born 1822, Denton, Lancashire. James' son John born 1865 Bredbury, Cheshire was the one who came to Australia. I think he had a cousin who went to Canada at the same time.

hello fellow Bradburys I originally come from St helens, Lancashire, England where the surname is very popular.
I believe the name originates from South Manchester/Cheshire, England (Macclesfield?).
I know that I have family connections there. It is also possibly a corruption of "bredbury" which is a town in that area.
I've always been fond of my surname - I find the links to the USA interesting. Salem Witches and California entrepreneurs etc.
If any Bradbury's wish to say 'hello' - i'm listening!

Wonderful website! Just found this page! We are doing some family research on our branch of the Bradburys - descended from Spencer Bradbury who owned Bradbury's Dairy (3 stores in Liverpool, England and 9 stores in Hightown, Manchester, England). He married Margaret Murphy, and had 3 children, Emily, George, and John. John was born in 1901. Margaret Murphy Bradbury and the 3 children moved to Canada in 1909. If any Bradburys reading this message have any more information, or would like more information about our branch, please email me!
